”Special Projects for me have been helping two non-profit organizations find a voice through a book and storytelling.”

1st Project: Camp Good Days, Buffalo & Rochester, New York

My children sadly lost their father to cancer in 2012 and a wonderful free support to us was Camp Good Days. Not only does CGD organize free summer camps to provide fun for children with cancer, children with siblings with cancer or children whose parents have cancer, they also provide year-round events for the family. In 2014, the C is for Courage book became a reality. I am humbled to share here that Camp Good Days honored me with the Teddi Award. This book cannot be bought in shops - it is not that kind of book - it is distributed to counselors in schools, the Oshei Hospital in Buffalo and the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

2nd Project: Care for the Needy Orphanage, Uganda, Africa

My friend Lily works with Nana's House, an orphanage in Mexico and then she said that she also needed assistance with 54 young children in another orphanage - Care for the Needy Orphanage in Uganda. I asked her to tell me more - these children needed food, shelter, clothing, medicine and school supplies. During those early days of the Covid-19 Pandemic I wondered how I could make a difference to an orphanage in Uganda. Miraculously, Orphanage Director Mbuubi Daniel and I collaborated on a poem called Hands Across the Ocean which you can find in our new book Power Poems for Giraffes.

A $1 donation from the sale of each book goes to help build a new classroom and provide school supplies. We also have a “Just the Poems” Edition available of Power Poems For Giraffes with the same proceeds going to Care For the Needy. To purchase copies of either book follow the link https://www.lulu.com/shop and type in “Power Poems For Giraffes”.

Our next goal is to make a new book about the orphanage written by the children and staff that live there. This will be its own income stream for the orphanage. The stories and poems will be in Luganda and English. In this way, we hope that not only the basic needs of the children will be met but lasting educational needs will be met too. There are many ways to help. Please click on the link below to find out how and more about the orphanage.

If you have a special project, please write to me at info@treetopspublishing.com with details.
